Designed to allow people with disabilities to brush their teeth effectively and independently, Swiss oral health brand’s CURAPROX has announced the launch of a new robotic toothbrush. The introduction of Samba marks the first time a global oral care brand is addressing this underserved community's needs with a toothbrush specifically designed for their unique requirements.

CURAPROX is hopeful this first-of-its-kind robotic toothbrush can have a big impact on improving oral care for people with physical and mental disabilities. Currently, this group of people has only 2 options for brushing their teeth: rely on a family member or a caregiver, or brush on their own and compromise their health with subpar cleaning. According to the Swiss manufacturer, studies have shown that a staggering 88% of individuals with disabilities suffer from dental problems, highlighting the urgent need for a tailored solution.

In development for over 8 years by an Israeli startup, Samba utilizes a pioneering combination of low- and high-frequency oscillations, propelling 12,900 soft bristles along the teethwith a dynamic brushing motion that helps remove plaque and debris more thoroughly from the teeth and gums. This technology is designed to eliminate the need for manual hand movements, granting individuals newfound independence in their oral care routine.

Unlike traditional toothbrushes that clean only 1 surface at a time, Samba is said to clean 36 surfaces simultaneously, reducing brushing time from 2 minutes to 30 seconds per side. By simplifying the brushing process and optimizing oral hygiene, the new robotic toothbrush paves the way for a healthier future for those who have long struggled to maintain proper oral health, according to CURAPROX, the product brand of Curaden.

“Samba was developed with the belief that everyone, regardless of their abilities, deserves a healthy mouth; disabilities should never stand in the way of good oral hygiene,” says Eran Eyal, inventor of Samba, in a press release this week. “The product’s innovative design, which eliminates the need for manual dexterity, offers independence to individuals and eliminates health risks associated with insufficient brushing. We believe this product will revolutionize oral care for people of all abilities and ensure that everyone can smile with confidence.”

Curaden works closely with dental professionals when developing CURAPROX products, which include an advanced line of manual toothbrushes, power toothbrushes, toothpaste, and interdental tools designed ergonomically to assist in keeping your mouth, teeth, and gums in optimal condition–regardless of braces, brackets, or sensitivities.

“Samba is a pioneering innovation at the intersection of technology and oral health, exemplifying our commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of all individuals, regardless of their physical or mental abilities,” adds Steffen Mueller, Managing Director, Curaden USA, in the press release. “By eliminating barriers and empowering people with disabilities to brush their teeth effectively and independently, Samba opens the door to a healthier future for millions of individuals in the U.S. and worldwide. We are proud to introduce this groundbreaking toothbrush, which embodies our dedication to premium oral care and signifies our unwavering belief in promoting inclusivity and improving lives.”

Samba is officially available only in the U.S. starting September 7th at www.samba.us for $299. Orders placed before September 15th will ship by October 14th, according to the company.
